ART DECO LIVES! The look of MLAATR is heavily influenced by art deco. If you're interested, there are a lot of great sites out there that explain, showcase, and preserve art deco buildings, objects, and artwork. Here are just a few: www.art-deco.org www.retropolis.net www.decopix.com www.artdeco.org www.artlex.com/ArtLex/a/artdeco Enjoy! Posted by Hello

http://architecture.about.com/cs/timeline/a/artdeco.htm makes an interesting point about ancient Egyptian art influencing the development of art deco. Certainly, one of the reasons this style is interesting is it seems to be old and new at the same time, because of its use of geometric patterns not found in nature, and because of its focus on ornamentation that is shared with older styles. It's interesting to consider it as a modern spin on some very old design ideas.

I had often wondered what style of art it was. That's one of the reasons I watch the show.

Check out the industrial designs of Raymond Lowey. Great stuff.

The designer whose style reminds me the most of the show is Bel Geddes. Look at these radios: http://www.vam.ac.uk/vastatic/microsites/1157_art_deco/about/starobjects/radio400.htm
It's just my opinion, but it's almost as if the top one 'popped out' of the show, it matches the style so closely.
