BACKGROUND PAINTINGS ARE TINY! Did you know that our background artists paint on little squares that are smaller than post-its? These paintings are scanned into the computer and used by our colors stylists as color reference and to do composites. Then the mini-paintings are sent overseas for the folks at Rough Draft in Korea to use too. So if you want to paint bg's for MLaaTR, start practicing by writing the entire Declaration of Independence on a grain of rice.  Posted by Picasa

I HAVE to ask?

Why are they so tiny?

Something to do with 35mm CGI imaging or something?

Wow! The detail is incredible for something so small!

Wow, now that's something I've never heard of: super-tiny BGs to be scanned and enlarged to fit the TV screen (unless someone produces a large-sized coin ten times bigger its original size and compares with the BG to create an illusion, thinking that what we see is true!! Still needs a solid proof, I think!)

Good thing it doesn't get all pixely when you blow it up! I HATE it when that happens!

That is something new to me. I am wondering what are the methods used by the bg artist to avoid pixel problem when enlarging the mini size bg.

There is no way the thumbs are used as broadcast production pieces, besides doesnt anyboady notice the quater wasnt scanned with the thumbnail, it's seperated by a different bg the quarters is grey.

Also to the first person's question, your better off calling Nick on your own, other people have asked that question and XJ-this writeraintgonnahelpyou is a waste of time, he's busy playing with his toy's and feeding his ego with this blog, though fun it is, no way in hell will he ever offer any help, right XJ?!?

As it reads in the original post, these thumbnail paintings are used for 'reference', and are not what you see on TV.
