OUR KOREA CREW! Although we do all the writing, directing, storyboarding, recording, and character/prop/background design here in Burbank, the animation of Teenage Robot is done in Korea by the fine folks at Rough Draft. This is a page from their calendar giving a taste of what December is like for them.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL. Yes, you knew we had drawing tips for Jenny's head, and body, and expressions... but her hands?!? This is only one fourth of the info we have on how to draw Jenny's hands. Is it this slavish attention to detail that makes the show so wonderful? Not really. It's all in the writing. ;)

Looks familiar...
Another decoration.
IT'S CHRISTMAS AT TEENAGE ROBOT! Well our tree finally went up and of course it is bedecked (is that a word?) with Teenage Robot decorations. We're still working away until this Thursday, but for those of you who are taking off: Happy Holidays!

THE MANY COSTUMES OF BRIT AND TIFF - Go watch Scooby Doo or Peanuts or the Simpsons or any of those other cartoons and you'll see them wearing the same dirty T-shirt day after day, episode after episode until the end of time. But not here. Not Brit and Tiff. They are on top of the fashion trends like no other cartoon character before them. Here is just a small sampling of the outrageous and amazing ensembles these two showcase.

COLOR BABY! Here's a great example of what I was talking about on Monday. This entire scene takes on a different color palette because it's set in the dark recesses of space rather than on the sunny streets of Tremorton. Notice how much greener Jenny looks than in a normal daytime shot. Thanks to Leticia, one of our great color stylists, for forwarding this to the blog!

Greetings from XJ-Coordinator! My name is Charlie and XJ-Writer let me sit in today to say "Hey." For you serious MLAATR fans, you may remember that my caricature appeared as an extra in "Saved by the Shell." When I'm not appearing in episodes, I am a key member of the production staff and an avid golfer. I sometimes wear boots and other times I sing. Good talking to you. I'm outta here.

XJWRITER IN BLACK AND WHITE! Yes, it's a black and white drawing of me... but why is it up here? To illustrate the amazing job our color artists do on the show. Each character and prop and background are carefully color coordinated to bring you the coolest looking thing since the psychadelia of the early 60's. Watch carefully and you'll see how Jenny's colors change in each scene depending on the mood and lighting of that scene. I've been asking our color artists for some of their beautiful color illustrations for months now... but there's a picture of me in black and white on the blog. Wonder why? So do I.

IT'S ON AGAIN TONIGHT! We just got word from the high-up muckety-mucks that in a last-minute programming change, the TR Christmas special will be airing again tonight (Friday, Dec 10) at 8:30. Somebody pinch me because life just ain't this good.
NO NEWS TODAY! That's right! After months of daily up-to-the-minute reports on the behind-the-scenes drama of "My Life as a Teenage Robot," today is the first day where there is absolutely nothing to report!
YOU MISSED THE SPECIAL?!?!? After all of our rave reviews, a few of you actually missed the MLAATR Christmas Special... including someone who was so busy doing Teenage Robot fan art that she missed the real Teenage Robot! Well, it will be airing again on Saturday the 18th if you missed it... or if you want to see it again!

ONE HOUR UNTIL THE NEW EPISODE! (At least if you're on the East Coast) Hey! We want to hear from all of you what you thought of the special as soon as you see it. And not just our major blog contributors, but everybody. What did you think?!?
"The premiere of Nickelodeon's most nominated show. Pff. I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about."
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Today is the day you get your early holiday present as Jenny returns to your TV sets for the first time this century! I believe the holiday special is on at 8:30 in most parts of the country, but check your local listings. The crew got to see the completed special last night and I don't believe I'm being biased when I say that IT ROCKS!

Alex Kirwan was nominated for Production Design. And the show itself was one of five nominees for Best Animated TV Production. Sweet!

POSING JENNY! Because she's a robot, Jenny's design is segmented into a number of seperate parts and she runs the risk of looking disjointed. Here are some tips on making her sleek and appealing and keeping her gestures expressive!
